The B1G1 Study Tour is an exclusive annual event that invites B1G1 business members around the world to visit the Worthy Cause Organisations they support in a particular country, to see the impact of their support on the ground.
In 2017, I had the privilege of being part of the organisational team for the Study Tour to Cambodia.
I was in charge of programmes management, which involved liaising with the Worthy Cause Organisations on scheduling and planned activities for the group. I was also in charge of facilitating the actual activities for the group of 25 business owners. These included cycling through the countryside to deliver bicycles to students in-need, building a playground to increase school participation rates, and having meal-time conversations with recipients of the vocational training programmes.
Study Tours of the past have been known to always include one major incident, such as a bus breaking down or a pick-up not arriving (which usually ends up bonding the group at a deeper level). This was the first Study Tour recorded that went smoothly without any incident. One participant even proclaimed it the ‘best day of her life‘.
Through this Study Tour, I learnt to really step out of my comfort zone by presenting and leading a group, learning to entertain and uplift the atmosphere of an audience of established business owners while accomplishing what needs to get done.
